about

Weyn Zaman El Hanan is a traditional piece from Omdurman. I have found a whole multitude of recordings ranging from chanting accompanied by just drums to electronic drum beats and synth sounds.
For our set we used a modern version by one of Sudan’s charismatic young stars Hussein Al - Sadiq as our model. It almost sounds like Reggae with a hint of R&B in the intro. In fact Sudanese Reggae is a genre in itself.
The use of extended chords in our version is entirely un - Sudanese and I can think of no other justification than that “it felt right”. Hear for yourself!
